Catheters are one of the largest product categories in the medical device business. “Catheters” as a product area, includes introducer sheaths, guide catheters, balloon catheters, electro-physiology catheters, bladder catheters, drainage catheters, i.v. dosage and drug delivery catheters. Chempilots has worked within this area for many leading medical device suppliers as well as small-size special catheter producers.
Catheter product and process development
Chempilots typical contribution in this field is to take on tough or unique polymer related problems and come up with innovative product and processing solutions. Many of our solutions are patented and implemented in customer’s production. These include:
- Coating technologies for balloon and catheter tip/shaft sub-assemblies (e.g. priming & coating)
- Intelligent print or marker transfer to catheter sub-assembly by e.g. pad printing
- Upscaling lab prototype equipment to production processing
- Multi-sterilization effects studies
- Welding, gluing, and potting of catheter sub-assemblies facilitated by surface modifications
- Dispensing, drying and curing in connection with gluing, potting, and coating operations
- Down-sizing catheter profiles by drawing-down and annealing plastic parts
