Safety and environmental awareness is an integrated part of our work in connection with R&D projects and custom medical productions.

Environmental services

• Chemical substitutions to obtain safer production with less environmental impact, and development of “green technologies”
• Consulting, e.g. chemical product labeling, waste management, operator’s safety, chemical risk assessment and production emission controls

Chempilots is approved to handle chemicals for R&D purposes, and our chemistry productions are approved individually. We are under audit control of the local environmental body.

Examples

• Chemical engineering of a synthesis for making salicylic acid derivatives. This resulted in a novelty reactor design and introduction of recycling principles, which reduced phenolic waste drastically, yet improved processing yield.
• Development of a new extraction method for soft contact lens production resulting in 1/10 of space requirements and a faster extraction step.
• Improvement of a UV-curing method for making gel electrodes, resulting in less residual acrylic monomers and hence less sensibilization of the operators as well as the end-users.
• Various substitutions in formulations where toxic and possible carcinogenic solvents and softener have been used.
