Custom ink applications
In many cases, the best way to apply a thin functional pattern or coating to a medical device is by a printing method. To facilitate this, functional components (pigment, drug, sensor molecule, biopolymer, etc.) need to be formulated into a printing ink with a binder to carry the functionality and achieve printing processability.

Chempilots can assist you in finding integrated product formulations and printing process solutions and in addition produce the ink for the purpose. Chempilots has developed and produced inks for the production of Acuvue® 2 Colours® soft contact lenses and has experience in the formulation of a range of specialty inks.

Ink production capabilities
Chempilots has facilities and processing equipment to develop and produce functional printing inks under QA. This includes:

Processing equipment

  • Eiger mini-mill for small-batch production (50-100 ml)
  • Dyno-mill KDL A
  • Dyno-mill pilot ECM
  • Dispersers, pumps, filters, and mixers

Analysis methods
We are able to quantify most wet ink parameters, including:

  • Particle size (laser, grindometer)
  • Color
  • Viscosity
  • Tinting strength
  • Functional component concentration
