Optimal process upscaling
Upscaling of chemical processes and equipment represent a mix of chemical engineering calculations and laboratory empirical data gained during lab-scale prototyping. We can assist you with:

  • Upscale studies for polymerization and other chemical synthesis, plus downstream processes
  • Upscale analysis based on processing scenarios and production cost estimates
  • Plant design, technology assessment, materials transfers, and waste analysis 
  • Implementation phase including technology transfer, approvals, training, start-up activities, and process validation

Examples of Chempilots projects
For over 20 years, Chempilots has assisted companies throughout Europe and North America. Here are just a few of our projects:

  • Upscaling studies of sulphation of heterocyclic hydrocarbons used for or as active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) starting materials. Some projects were established in-house as GMP production lines supplying materials for large-scale downstream production tests, for stability tests and for animal tests.
  • Design of a reactor and processing equipment for bulk production of a known active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). The new process resulted in extraordinary high yields, low cycle-times and low chemical wastes due to recycling. Complete production plants were designed and build as ready-to-install modules.
  • Assessment of process technology for making polymer composites for dental fillings. We provided scenarios with materials transfer analysis, production-cost estimates and capacities, and recommended a plant design.
  • Upscale strategy and plant design for polymerization of a UV-light degradable polymer. Chempilots also designed a plant for production of UV-sensitive monomer used in the polymerization plant.
  • Engineering of dip coating equipment for a hydrophilic coating of guidewires. The process included pre-cleaning, reactive primer coating, and hydrophilic coating with several drying steps with solvent recycling. Chempilots assisted the customer with process implementation in controlled production areas.
