Case story - Vistakon
Over the last 20 years, Chempilots has worked closely with Vistakon in the development of several generations of high-volume processes for soft contact lens manufacturing. It has been a very successful partnership.
Today, Vistakon, a division of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc., is the world's largest manufacturer of soft contact lenses. Their success is partly based on a process invented and developed by Chempilots.
Initial cooperation
Chempilots developed the process for the world's first disposable soft contact lens for MIA-lens, a local, Scandinavian company, and was contacted in 1983 by Vistakon.
Outstanding results were achieved with regard to lens precision and throughput compared to the industry standards at that time. Vistakon bought all rights to both the process and manufacturing methods. Chempilots transferred the process to Vistakon and the first disposable soft lens was launched globally under the AcuvueŽ brand in 1987.
The world's first one-day soft contact lens was launched under the AcuvueŽ Brand in 1994. Chempilots contributed to the development of several key processes. These resulted in superior optics, lower production costs, and fully automated manufacture.
